Alex: First, can you share a bit about your story? What inspired you to create and build Miracle Mama, amid growing your own family?
Whitney Williams Rowell: I started Miracle Mama in the thick of early motherhood. After having my first daughter, Stella, I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and trying to figure out breastfeeding—which was so much harder than I expected. No one had told me there were things you could actually do to help your milk supply. Then, one day, a friend showed up at my doorstep with a batch of freshly baked lactation cookies that changed everything for me. Not only did the cookies actually work—my supply increased and I had a little more energy—but I felt seen and cared for in a moment when most of the attention was on the baby, not the mom.
That experience inspired me to start baking my own cookies, and eventually Miracle Milkookies was born. Over time, I realized the gap wasn’t just about snacks, it was about moms needing support, community, and functional foods through every hormonally intense stage of life. Miracle Mama came from that realization. At its core, it’s about turning my own struggles into something that empowers other women.
Alex: In the world of sweet treats and snacks, clean often goes out the window–but not with your products. Can you tell us about how Milkookies serve a higher purpose beyond being a delicious snack, and why it’s important to set a higher standard for ingredients in your products?
Whitney: For me, it’s really simple: if I wouldn’t feed it to my kids, it doesn’t go into our products. When I started baking lactation cookies, I noticed that so many of the “healthy” or “functional” options on the market didn’t actually taste good. They didn’t excite me, and I didn’t look forward to eating them. That was something I refused to compromise on.
With Miracle Milkookies, the goal was to make something that’s both nourishing and genuinely craveable. And the proof is in our community; moms write to us saying they’re excited to breastfeed again because it means they have an excuse to eat our cookies, or they keep gifting them to friends because they know they’ll actually be enjoyed. That joy, that craving, combined with ingredients that support mom—that’s the higher purpose behind every cookie.
Alex: Both Attn: Grace and Miracle Mama have a soft spot for women going through hormonally intense experiences. In your experience, what does it mean to provide a product that meets women where they are at a new, challenging, or disorienting moment in their life?
Whitney: Motherhood, from pregnancy to postpartum and beyond, is filled with transitions that no one prepares you for. Your hormones are shifting, your body feels unfamiliar, and your sense of identity is changing. When a product actually meets you in that moment, not dismissing it, not sugarcoating it, but acknowledging and supporting what’s happening, it’s powerful.
Alex: Obviously lactation cookies are not medicine in a western sense, yet they do have a health impact. What do you think of food as medicine? How do you think Milkookies enhance the health and well-being of breastfeeding Moms?
Whitney: I believe deeply in the concept of food as medicine, especially in postpartum, when women’s bodies are healing, producing milk, and running on little sleep. While Milkookies aren’t a prescription, they are rooted in ingredients that have been used for generations to support lactation and energy: oats, flaxseed, brewer’s yeast. When you combine those functional ingredients with something delicious, it becomes more than a snack. It becomes a way to take care of yourself daily, in a form that feels joyful instead of clinical.
Alex: Can you speak to some of the challenges that breastfeeding Moms face and how both your products and your brand philosophy offer solutions?
Whitney: Breastfeeding moms face so much pressure to produce enough milk, to bounce back quickly, to do it all while running on empty. There’s guilt, isolation, and a lack of resources. That’s why Miracle Mama is about more than cookies. Yes, the product supports supply, but the brand itself is about wrapping moms in support through community, through content, through just normalizing how hard this season really is. We want moms to feel like someone finally designed something with them in mind.
Alex: If you weren’t leading a revolution in lactation, what do you think you would be doing?
Whitney: I’d probably still be building something for women, just in a different way. I’ve always been passionate about creating spaces where women feel seen and supported, whether that’s through storytelling, community, or product. If it wasn’t Miracle Mama, I think I’d be leading something similar in the wellness or motherhood space, because this mission feels too close to my heart to ever walk away from.
Alex: And of course, we have to ask … did you deal with postpartum bladder leaks? Around 1 in 3 women do! We are on a mission to de-stigmatize bladder leaks, and it all starts with women sharing their stories. We’d love to hear yours if you’re willing to share!
Whitney: Actually … I started noticing bladder leaks after having my first baby, but honestly, there are so many wild changes your body goes through after birth, I just assumed it was normal. Every mom I knew seemed to experience it, so I never thought twice. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my third baby, who I chose to have at home during Covid so my family could be with me, that my midwife asked if I had ever experienced bladder leakage. I told her, “Yes, all the time!” and she said something that really stuck with me: “Just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s normal.” She recommended pelvic floor therapy, and it helped me so much.
That experience made me realize how many moms are silently dealing with things they don’t even know they can get help for. Talking about it openly, the same way Attn: Grace is working to de-stigmatize it, is so important, because it helps moms feel less alone and more empowered to seek support.
Thank you so much to Whitney for taking a story so many of us can relate to and transforming it into a brand that’s redefining postpartum care. If we may be so bold, Milkookies + Attn: Grace pads, wipes, and body care products would make a truly next-level welcome home basket for the new Mama in your life.
